Stopped by the PO box on the way to the airport this morning before
taking off to New Orleans for a business meeting (really!; don't
understand why someone would do this in the month of February!), and
found the latest issue of QST.
Front cover photo of a heavy-duty tower on Aland Island with some VHF/UHF
antennas with a feature article inside on Aland operations.
Contest Related Items: MikeMaster - A Microphone Preamplifier with Noise
Gating & Compression; Build Efficient, Short Vertical Antennas (160M); A
Reduced-Size Half Sloper for 160 Meters; Product Reviews - Compact &
Portable Antennas Roundup [Alpha Delta Outreach/Outpost (looks like
something the military would use), Bilal Isotron 40 (looks like someone's
science fair project, or is this a new bug zapper?), Force 12 ZR-3 (looks
like stacked square Halo loops from the 60s), MFJ-1788 (a cross between
"The Club" and a "Hula Hoop"), and Traffie Hex Beam II (looks like an
upside-down umbrella frame)] and Palomar AN-7 HF/VHF Mobile Antenna; and
(just what everyone is waiting for...) Results - 97 ARRL 10GHz & Up
Cumulative Contest (all on one page!).
Other Interesting Items: Make Your Own Rubber Duckies (make an antenna
for your shack-on-the-belt rig); Happenings column - Hams Brave Ice
Storms, Typhoon (check out the picture of the heavily iced
tower/antennas!)
Ads: Icom has a full page ad on their wide-band receivers. One
interesting item is their IC-PCR1000, a PC-controlled wide band receiver
(a little black box with an attached whip antenna and a cable that
connects to your PC). New 2 page ad from Alpha Delta, and another
separate ad for their CW paddles.
That's all; time to catch my flight (slight delay in Charlotte).
Sorry about the Juno ad at the end of this e-mail message. They just
started this recently and I have not heard if there is a way to delete
them from my end.
73 and good reading,
