[CQ-Contest] Why do I contest?

I have changed the subject line of this thread a little to focus the
discussion from two radios...to who's contest is this anyway. Maybe I am
all wet here...but here it goes.

Really, what the discussion is....why to I contest? Here are my reasons:

1. Old traffic handler (used a bug) and like to pass books of traffic.
2. Hones my operating skills.
3. Like to receive a lot of QSL Cards in the mail
4. Lets me meet a lot of people and have a serious discussion
5. Allows me time away from the family.
6. Gives me something to brag about.
7. Endeares me to the neighbors.
8. Local Hams like to hear me brag about my scores.

Whoops.... Wrong list. Let me try another one.

1. Fun
2. Try to beat my previous scores
3. Test my station design (layout and antennas)
4. Develop concentration skills that benefit me in my work
5. Judge my abilities compared to others.
6. Belong to a group of people who have outstanding mental skills
7. Establish self-esteem though accomplishment. (Much like Eagle Scout)
8. Develop perserverance.

Those are the few ideas I have as to why I like to contest...even if I am
not going to win. But, when you look at the list...you not only have to see
how far from the top you are...you have to look at who you whipped up on.
(Sorry guys).

Is the cup half empty or half full.

Hmmm......"So Many JA's"??? Ive been out here for almost 12 years and
have seen a BIG decline in JA activity. I would guess we work just as many
Ja's as the East coast does of Italy stations!!!

I see the West Coast being the only place for Domestic Phone Contests
to compete from....You need to be on the East Coast for the other 98.3% of
the contests to be competive, or to get your name in the Mag.....

See Ya! Rich N7TR ....moving to Wyoming!
