Here's a snippet from Sunbelt's NTools newsletter about how many operating
system shipments happened in 1997. We've been discussing upgrading of
logging software to embrace the new OSes. These numbers are probably not
representative at all of ham shacks around the world, but they're still
interesting.

It may surprise some that 1.75 million DOS placements and nearly 6 million
Win3.x placements occurred in 1997. With all the hullabaloo about NT, it's
interesting to note that Win 3.x shipped nearly 85% as many units as NT.
Pretty good for a dead operating system!

Of the 76.6 million OS units shipped in 1997, 69.4 percent were Windows
95, 9.2 percent were Windows NT Workstation, 7.7 percent were Windows 3.x,
4.6 percent were Macintosh, 2.3 percent were DOS, with the remaining 7
percent or so for all other environments.
