[CQ-Contest] Major Changes to Field Day Rules

I hope we haven't been sending in bad FD logs for the last 9 years! But
ever since they started giving bonus points for 10 (or 5, whatever) uhf/vhf
contacts during FD, the uhf.vhf station has not counted as an additional
transmitter for classification purposes, regardless of what class you are
in. And we submitted our entries as such, still 1A even with the uhf/vhf
station.
The Novice/Tech station is something else altogether. It does not count as
an additional transmitter for 2A and above only. It would not be a
"freebie" for our class 1A operation, so we have not had a Novice/Tech
station at any of our 1A FD's.
Maybe this new rule change is designed to make the uhf/vhf station replace
the old Novice/Tech station, in which case it could no longer be a
"freebie" for class 1A- just for 2A and above. I hope this is not the case,
as it would change our FD operation dramatically. I suspect we would end up
having two separate FD entries, one class 1A for hf higher class licensees,
and a separate one for uhf/vhf for everyone else.
I will wait for the official rules to come out in May QST before I make any
radical changes in our FD plans though.
