For me, this is THE ham radio weekend of the year. Thousands of people
filling the waves all with the common fun in mind. Amazing. Old
people, young people. Mobiles, people on a deserted islands, on ships
and in metropolitan areas. Guys with kilowatts and QRPs with a
vertical. Guys who just call in for a couple QSOs, and whole troops
who have prepared for a year to do the cqww expedition style from an
exotic location. People operating from cold and snowed in places, guys
in bermuda shorts in the tropics, guys from misty and rainy locations
as well as guys in deserts. All with the CQWW on their mind.

And the week before the contest, I always have the same worry: that an
emergency would happen somewhere so I would have to speed off to one
or the other country. Friday afternoon, I got a call I was to be in 9X
the next day, but I refused. Give me this only weekend I want to stay
at the radio. That is all I am asking. hi.

Especially the evenings are an emotional high. Was running 10m single
band. And in the evenings, conditions were so good, I was running
pileups with guys from literally all over the world coming in. EU,
Africa, NA, SA, Pacific, Africa. One by one.
And looking at the worldmap on the wall while running pileups at those
times, I could see imaginary lights popping up from the locations I
was working people. Left, Right, Up and Down on the map. Seemingly at
random. And for those countries I have been to, memories and snap shot
pictures popped up. Of people I have met, things I have done and views
I have seen.

An emotional high!
