Comments from one of the Ed's - I don't think that I was asked more than
a few times for a fill (if it was more, it wasn't enough for to leave a
lasting
impression). I DO remember, for whatever reason, that there was a point
in the contest where I wondered to myself if I should have used a different
name - I think that this came after a rather enlongated fill attempt (which
finally was accomplished).
I normally set the speed on my exchange (in a contest that requires my
name) at around 28 WPM. I have found that this eliminates most of the
requests for a repeat...it IS a rather short burst to copy, especially under
noisy conditions like we had last weekend. I don't feel that the slower speed
on the exhange hurts my overall performance.
I actually had a bigger problem with those who have out of date MASTER.DAT
files, with my old call (which hasn't been on for over a year)! Many only
caught the CTA, and came back with WA6CTA instead of K6CTA......I wasted
more time correcting those than on my name.
The biggest reason why I don't use a different name is that I tend to forget
it, since it's not very intuitive.
Ed K6CTA
