How do you compute distance between Grid Squares without a computer? For
example, what is the distance between CM87 and JT1BH ( Grid Square ON37lw).
OK, you need a radio to play in the ARRL DX contest, now you need a
computer program to figure out how to log the contacts or you can't send in
a log?
Sure, I can afford to buy one, but do you think every JT in the contest
does?
For those of you who saw the BY team at WRTC 96 send CW at 50 WPM on a
straight key, and also copy at that speed, that type of skill would have no
place in the League's proposal of grid squares because it does not use a
computer.
The direction the League is pushing is very disheartening , it is more
interested in technology then in operating skills.
Does it take more skill l to copy consecutive numbers rather then a constant
599KW? Can you look up someone's grid square after the contest on the
Internet to insure you copied it correct? . If you can't figure out which
displays more operator performance, I have a bridge I would like to sell
you.
					Aloha, Al
