A few thoughts on a possible Contest Decathlon . . .

1.	Permit Event - Competitor must secure a legal tower permit from the 
appropriate permit granting authority. Scoring: Fastest turn-around; least 
restrictions. Bonus: Extra points awarded for every irrate neighbor who makes 
an impassioned statement at a public hearing. Triple bonus for front-page 
articles in local paper.
2.	Tower Installation Event - Competitor must erect tower. Successful 
completion: A permit signed off with inspections by local building inspector. 
Scoring: Highest ratio of [tower height]/[tower cost x # of days from permit 
grant to sign-off by building inspector.] [See Special Point Deductions #5 
below.]
3.	Local Licensing Event - Competitor must obtain a local license and callsign 
from appropriate granting authority. Scoring: Time to obtain license. 
Deductions if license is revoked within six months of contest period or 
citations are issued against licensee. [Extra deductions for out-of-band ssb 
citations.]
4a.	Outbound EMI Event - Competitor shall deal with neighbor RFI problem. 
Successful completion: 1) neighbor no longer threatens bodily harm, or 2) 
neighbor moves. Scoring: Least time to complete. [See Special Point Deduction 
#1 below]
4b.	Inbound EMI Event - Competitor shall successfully eliminate local noise 
source. Successful completion: Competitor shall produce evidence of elimination 
of the noise source - [i.e. electric fence generator, dog fence, spark plugs 
from offending tractor/motorcycle, etc]. Scoring: Improvement in noise floor in 
dB.
5.	Wire Antenna Event - See KQ2M description elsewhere
6.	On-the-Air Event - Competitor shall produce maximum score in contest, etc . 
 . [yawn . . .]
7.	Contest Food Event - Competitor shall demonstrate contest food preparation 
skills. Successful completion: Satisfied judges. Scoring: Maximum number of 
contest infractions "missed" by judges due to excessive sleep or intoxication.
9.	DXpedition Travel Event - Prior to trip, competitor shall submit inventory 
of contest equipment taken from home. Successful completion: Competitor shall 
produce all equipment on inventory list upon returning from trip. Scoring: 
Deductions for missing equipment; bonus for surprise appearance of equipment 
not on original list. Customs seizures are no excuse for losses.
10.	Certificate Event - Competitor shall produce a valid certificate for 
placing in the contest. Scoring: Time to receive certificate [to nearest 
decade.]

Contest Period: 0000z July 22, 2000 to 0000z July 22, 2050

Special Point Deductions may be assessed if there is:
1.	Involvement of law enforcement agencies in any event
2.	Involvement of emergency rescue personnel in any event
3.	Creation of a new anti-tower Zoning ByLaw in the aftermath of the Permit 
Event
4.	Unexpected loss of life or limb of local town officials or other regulatory 
officials within six months of event
5.	Unexpected "sudden accumulation of wealth" by local town officials or other 
regulatory officials within six months of event
