[CQ-Contest] di-dit dit

I vaguely remember reading in a league publication in the late '50s that
the  di-dit dit meant "Can you hear me?" the reply would be di-dit,
meaning, "Yes, I hear you". I don't know the origin but it certainly is
not used much, if any, today in that context.
