Late each summer, about Labor Day, I break out last years SS
logs and send a QSL to every contact with a recent (less then
4 years old) check number.  In the comments I write "Thanks for
the SS Contest QSO -- hope to work you in November".  Hopefully
jogs their memory to get on again this year.
