[CQ-Contest] SOA and club competition...

I just did a quick check of the results of ARRL DX SSB 2000.  Here's what I
found:

The ratio of SO to SOA logs in each district of W1, W2 and W3 is about 3:1.
For each of the rest of the districts (W4-W0) it's about 15:1-20:1.  Is the
density of the population in the northeast (and therefore the viability of
packet networks) partially responsible?  Sure.  Is the stiff northeast
inter-club competition (which encourages a lot of SOA operation) also to
blame?  Maybe it's a cultural thing as well.  Hmm...
