[CQ-Contest] Penalties

Wrong! Hans would not lose any points at all.

Sorry Tom.

Using the CQWW model, this QSO would show up in the W7WHY UBN report as "-B"
and in the K0HB UBN report as "N".

This means that W7WHY loses credit for copying K0HB's call wrong; the minus
sign indicates losing credit, and "B" for "busted" or "bad".

In K0HB's report it is shown as "N". Please note that there is no minus
sign. This indicates that K0HB's call is not (N) in W7WHY's log, but K0HB
loses no credit for it as it is obvious that W7WHY busted K0HB to K0SB.

This occurs frequently.

Also occurring frequently is where someone logs a familiar callsign like
K0HB when due to a static crash,
or whatever, they are really working the less familiar K0SB.

The person who logged K0HB in error might say, after seeing his UBN report,
"What do you mean K0HB is Bad? Hans is on in every contest!"

Many operators don't understand that a "-B" does not indicate that the call
is Bad, just that it's not a good QSO for you!

There have been several articles written in CQ-Contest about this and also
in QST.

I would suggest that we all review how it really works before we vent here
making false statements.

73,
Bob N5NJ
