Hi Jimmy,
it works like this:
he sat whole contest on 1840, didn't move for a second. He actually had
"chaser" going around and telling him about some multipliers right on
frequency (multi op ?). Then when you sit on one frequency whole contest, you
blast it clear, especially with high power, no one comes close and you have
clear channel for receiving and you can hear better than other slobs that
have to fight QRM. There is another phenomena, it appears that frequency can
be conditioned by constant transmitting, and propagation enhanced. Kind of
ionospheric heating. I have seen that many times, After the contest I would
have QSO with OK2RZ we talk for about half an hour, and then band dies.
That's how he "cheated" on receive. It helps tremendously. Beverages close to
the ocean really work too.
