[CQ-Contest] Unsportsmanlike?

That's unfortunate...

However, it's hard to use a large CW contest like SS to start learning
Morse code at speed.

That said, he should have done a few things:
1) Go very high in the band and answer slow stations or call CQ at your
own rate.
2) Send at a rate no faster than what you expect the other station to send
back to you. The station you are calling should slow down to match your
speed (to a large extent) if they answer you.
3) If that doesnt work for you, dont bother copying the exchange (and dont
submit a log). Get the callsign before you call, try to copy what you can
and then send your exchange back promptly when it's time. (Of course,
this wont help SMC if that's the goal ;} )

If all else fails, wait til Sunday afternoon during the football games and
almost anyone will slow down to work a new Q!

I've been working with a local fella on getting into "contesting."
Everybody needs an elmer, so it seems. After much encouragement and
proding
on my part, he gave it a go on CW during SS. Below you will find his
comments. I've scrubbed his name to eliminate any embarassment. Comments?
