[CQ-Contest] Is this the way to "teach" budding Contesters?

Ron is right of course.  But as a ham of 40+ years, and a contester for most 
of them, I must plead ignorance about this rule.  Quite posssibly the coach 
for the aspiring contester was ignorant too.  We all make mistakes from 
ignorance.
