[CQ-Contest] self spotting vs other cheating

Forgive me if I'm confused, but I'm not quite following the logic here. We
should ignore infractions we can catch because the ones we can't are more
serious?
I suspect that self-spotting, in the case of many cheaters, is only the tip
of the iceberg. Someone whose morals are weak enough that self-spotting
doesn't seem wrong isn't likely to stop turning up the RF Output at 1500
watts, disable received spots or any other of the unenforceable rules that
exist.
And I think that Chuck is understating the value of spots. In some contests,
a continuous stream of spots can only help. I suspect Dave is only showing
us selected samples. I can't think of too many hams who, were it allowed,
wouldn't want to be spotted all weekend long. I'm not sure that so rare a
section as Illinois in SS qualifies as a good example.
When I've done multiops, we watch the spots -- as permitted -- and virtually
every spot raises the rate, sometimes dramatically, particularly when we've
been running a relatively rare special prefix.
I think Chuck has some good points about other infractions, but none
discredit the work done by Dave.
