As I sit here and write this, I had to sleep on the news. At first, I
thought that this was an elaborate April fools' joke that Bill was pulling,
as Bill, W4AN would always joke in some kind of way to make me laugh on
those late nights on 40M CW during contests. But, I woke up this morning,
and it's not a dream, it's not a joke, one of the greatest contributors to
Ham Radio Contesting of our time has become an SK.

Bill founded and maintained the LEADING site for amateur radio. Our WWYC
mailing list is running on his contesting.com servers now. CQ-Contest, with
THOUSANDS of posts monthly, is another product of W4AN. 3830, has provided
us with realtime comparisons of scores for YEARS. Ever since I got into the
hobby, I leaned on Bill's work heavily. We all in some way have come across
or used something that Bill setup or helped out with in ham radio.

We're at a critical point in our hobby. This loss leaves a gap, a gap that
will be VERY hard to fill, but we, as a amateur radio community, both
contester and non contester, must rise to the occassion. If this gap goes
unfilled, this could deal a critical blow to contesting and ham radio in
general.

Just thought I'd pass along the sad news, I feel like I've been hit with a
ton of bricks, so I really am not forming coherent thoughts right now.

Pray for Dana (XYL) and the Fisher family.

73 W4AN... I'll miss you on those slow Saturday nites at 3AM.
