there was a comment regarding the data showing up on the web and that being a good place for data.  and another comment proclaimed that the under 40 crowd was more focused on the Internet and less on print.

the data on the net is good.  excellent.  i can mine the data and get the answers i need to set my goals without having to dig out a QST from the bottom of the stack, which of course would be the wrong one.

as for the younger crowd and print - anyone can develop a website - anyone.  in 10 years time, the data on that website might or might not be available.  hard drives cost money and bandwidth costs more.  with that said, i feel more part of something in print than i do on the net.  by default, the net is an ever shifting place where data is constantly admended and replaced with current data sets.  it by default is not the media of permenence - books and magazines hold that title.

and nothing makes accomplishment more valid than reading it in print - it is imperical and can not be changed or subverted or deleted when the server takes a dump.

i am a computer professional and am amazed at how many people want to use the web as a data warehouse.  it simply is not designed for that role over extended periods of time.  how many contests will show up in the scores database before the database manager decides it's too unweilding and separates the datasets. by year or contest groups.
