Maybe it is just me but

"> Organize a petition saying we will take some action against QST. and

sure sounds like you are suggesting a threat against both QST and the
"advertisers" (i.e. the "Big 5") to me...

Well once guys are putting words in my mouth. I NEVER said, or implied or
suggested, threatening the manufactures.
Here is a rough draft of a letter I will send to Yaesu:

Dear Sirs:
2 months ago I purchased the finest state of the art contesting and Dx'ing
radio, the FT1000MP MKV. It is an excellent product and hopefully as an
operator I can live up to your radio. I purchased it from AES and they were
very courteous and helpful in selecting the right options.
I do have one problem and that is a magazine you and your dealers heavily
advertise in, QST, refuses to adequately support my, and many others,
contesting activities and needs. Until recently QST was the number one forum
for contesting and contesting activities. It is no longer it's another also
ran now.
I would like you to suggest to QST/ARRL to use your advertising dollars to
help support your customers needs, especially in area of contesting,
contesting activities, and contest reporting. The end result might lead to
more sales of your fine products like the Ft 1000MP.
Thank you

cc: AES

I think if enough letters of this type were sent the big 5: Yaesu, Icom,
Kenwood, AES, and HRO the ARRL would have no choice but to respond to the
contesting community.

The problem is, what are you going to threated the
manufactures with? Never again buy their product?
They know better than that. Who else are you going to
buy a contest quality radio from? it isn't something
that most of us could homebrew.
