[CQ-Contest] Fragmenting and cheapening contests.

Why don't we just give everyone a participation certificate. I would like to
see more participation and NOT less. If everyone is really in it for a
certificate let's just give everyone a certificate. I understand the
marathon/vs/5k/800/400 etc and feel that there are plenty of categories
plenty of opportunities.
The rest of America is going to participation crap.... Like participating is
the goal?
Isn't the GOAL of a COMPETITION.. to try to win!
The effort in your ATTEMPT to win IS THE REWARD.
Yea.. I know.. "that's easy for you to say"...

Having been to the top of the mountain... trust me... the trip to the top IS
THE REWARD.
The view is all down from there..

Somewhere (in America in particular) we started awarding kids for "trying"
then we awarded kids for "participating"
Now kids get medals and awards which rival World Wrestling Federation Belt
Buckles... When a kid gets a reward like he has just won the world title for
"PARTICIPATING" in a spellathon. We have lost our focus just a little.

The REWARD (once again) is in the trip.. in the effort...
...when you successfully put up that extra tribander on a weekend
... when you sneak a beverage on the ground accross your neighbor's yard
... when you work that rare 1A0 on Long Path at an odd time when nobody else
is listening
... when you do with QRP what others are having difficulties at full power
... when you find that annoying RFI kicking off your computer
... when you recruit a young ham into your local contesting club

YOU HAVE SUCCEEDED!

If you need a certificate.. print one out on your computer.. you're the only
one who will see it hanging on your wall anyway.
