I have plans to do a M/2 operation from HK3CQ's Idyllic QTH in the mountains
of Colombia about an hour from Bogota this November and am looking for
another op.
We plan to only have 3 operators, Juan HK3CQ, myself and one other which
will allow for plenty of operating time.
Anyone who is interested must be willing to bring a transceiver and/or amplifier
and be willing to assist in putting up some wire antennas for 80/160 the during
the week before the contest. We will commute to the station and stay in my
apartment in Bogota so living costs will be minimal.
I plan to arrive in Bogota on saturday of the weekend before the contest and
leave the monday after. Airfares are cheap on Avianca if you can fly from
Miami, Ft. Lauderdale or New York City - my R/T from Ft. Lauderdale is about
$350.
Contrary to what you hear and read in the media Colombia is not unsafe. My
wife and I have apartments in Bogota and Cartagena and I have travelled all
over the country with no fear. Like any place if you want trouble you can find
it but life goes on there just like any other place.
This will be a fun operation from a great location in Zone 9. Ten meters was
open nicely to Europe and the USA last sunday with good signals.
Please respond asap if you are seriously intersted - time is short.
