You know, you left a major bit of information out of your posting.

You didn't tell the list what country you'll be doing your contesting
from. This gives us a bit of a problem.

If you were going to be contesting from the United States, then your
choices would be broad. Three major contesting software packages
satisfy the needs of US contesters who run DOS very nicely. One may
be downloaded free: CT from http://k1ea.com. The trouble is that CT
may not support all of the contests that you'll be interested in
operating. CT cannot be freely adapted from one contest to another.
For instance, if you operate in a contest that uses regions of Japan
as multipliers, you may be out of luck. TRLog from
http://www.trlog.com is somewhat unique among contesting software in
that it can be adapted to various new contest formats with
configuration files. www.datomonline.com provides another alternative
that is similar to CT. Other software packages provide the windows
executables in lieu of DOS, or are generally limited to a few
contests. Some of these others are almost the only alternatives for
certain contests.
