Bill, I fully agree with the K.I.S.S. principle but don't think we all know the reasons behind the
current LotW certification process. I can only imagine how much gripping and complaining ARRL would
have gotten if they had made it any less secure.
As for the "dumbing down", well, yes, to some the LotW certification and submission process may be a
pain, intimidating or just plain aggravating. But, if you follow the instructions, everything will
work..easily. I cannot help but believe that hams, who have gone to the effort to learn theory,
code, pass the exam and build a station would be thwarted by this. I can only surmise that it simply
boils down to one thing....failure (refusal?) to follow instructions.
Yes, I read UA9CDC's message and also refer to the response from Art RX9TX. I can confirm what Art
says...I have a LotW QSL from UA9CDC. :))

|Point taken, Ted. I have nothing against complexity when it is needed, but
|LoTW is an example of overkill. We all have only so much energy to spend so
|how about simplifying things where possible? Let's spend that extra time
|and energy chasing DX or contesting!
|
|It has nothing to do with 'dumbing down', in fact just the opposite. A
|programmer - a GOOD programmer - will spend extra time and effort to make
|his product as user friendly as possible while still accomplishing his goals.
|
|Did you read the email from UA9CDC? There are a lot of stations who will
|not use LoTW because of it's complexity. Those of us who do use it are
|missing out on QSLs because of it.
