[CQ-Contest] PTT control SO2R CW (was: Portable contest rigs)

Hmmm,

I guess simplicity is in the eye of the beholder...

My SO2R box is always plugged in to the computer. It's always plugged in to
both radios' mic and headphone jacks.

PTT happens through the LPT to the SO2R to the mic jack. If it's all hooked
up anyway... I'd have to do surgery to the DX Doubler to not have it.

I don't use it when I'm LP and one radio, since I usually use full QSK. But
my amp can't handle QSK, so rather than have the VOX delay either be long
enough to cut off the first couple dits of a response or short enough that
it's dropping out between words, I'd rather use CW PTT since the computer
knows when it's finished and can switch the radio to RX instantly.

I suppose if your control hardware is homebrewed or doesn't have the same
connectivity, CW PTT would be complicated. But to me it's as dead simple as
turning on the radio. And mondo convenient. But as they say, YMMV.

If you use QSK, I'll concede that you won't see the point of CW PTT. But I
don't think I'll ever go back to semi break-in again. It will either be full
break-in or CW PTT.
