It is often said that Assisted operators will score better than their
un-assisted competitors if we had one single-op category in contesting.

So...let's look at the scores from the ARRL DX CW and SSB contests of
the past three years and see what it shows. (All these numbers were
crunched
from the ARRL contest results web site.)

What I did was take the top scores from assisted and unassisted and
simply combine them into a top 20. Pretty simple. What does it show?
Other than in HP CW, the assisted operators score higher and dominate
the top 20 combined standings.

ARRL SSB 06 HP - highest assisted finish was 14th - 5 assisted in top 20

ARRL SSB 05 HP - highest assisted finish was 6th - - 7 assisted in top 20

ARRL SSB 04 HP - highest assisted finish was 6th - 6 assisted in top 20
-
ARRL SSB 06 LP - highest assisted finish was 5th - 5 assisted in top 20

ARRL SSB 05 LP - highest assisted finish was 4th - 2 assisted in top 20

ARRL SSB 04 LP - highest assisted finish was 3rd - 2 assisted in top 20
-

ARRL CW 06 HP - highest assisted finish was 1st - 7 assisted in top 20

ARRL CW 05 HP - highest assisted finish was 1st - 6 assisted in top 20

ARRL CW 04 HP - highest assisted finish was 3rd - 7 assisted in top 20

ARRL CW 06 LP - highest assisted finish was 11th - 3 assisted in top 20

ARRL CW 05 LP - highest assisted finish was 16th - 1 assisted in top 20

ARRL CW 04 LP - highest assisted finish was 18th - 2 assisted in top 20

I like to bet on the horses - and after seeing this breakdown, I'd be happy
to wager my money on the assisted guys in ARRL DX if there was one
single-op category.
