[CQ-Contest] Montenegro - a new Ham country?

Tim,

I believe they've set a target date of or or about 13 July to declare Montenegro independant.

I would expect that the ITU will, in due course, issue them a new prefix block, unless as part of the negotiations with current government of Serbia & Montenegro (which I anticipate will be the "surviving" entity of Serbia as opposed to a "new" one), one of the blocks currently allocated to S&M is transferred to them. We shall find out in due course, of course.

And I wouldn't expect a change on the official DXCC list until after the entity actually comes into existance. I'm sure the gang in Newington is prepared to make the change -- but first things first.

Interesting times, is it not?

Since the successful vote for independence on May 21st, it would seem that Montenegro is now a separate country from Serbia. Is this official yet? Does anyone know what has to take place for Serbia and Montenegro to become two independent countries on the 'World Stage' ?

>From a Ham Radio perspective, I assume that when this happens the DXCC list will increase by one. The current list http://www.arrl.org/awards/dxcc/dxcclist.txt is still showing the entry:

YT-YU, YZ* Serbia and Montenegro EU 28 15

Will there be separate prefixes for each country?
