I have been lurking on this reflector for many years and have followed many
of the threads that pop up regarding unfair play in contesting.

We amateur radio operators are a representative cross section of society as
a whole. Society has put aside common sense with the mantra that our
"rights" need to be preserved at all cost, even at the sacrifice of common sense.
We can thank lawyers for fostering this movement in their avarice and greed to
do everything in, and to, society that society does not specifically
prohibit. As a society we selectively enforce our laws rather than require everyone
to live by the letter of the law. So....if the ARRL does not specifically
require an accurate check and they refuse to enforce that requirement, then
there will be some individuals in our society of radio operators who will try
to find a way to twist this rule to what they perceive as a shift in the
balance in their favor. If it is not the check, it is the surreptitious use of the
packet cluster or telenet, or claiming low power when the run a KW, or the
"rubber log", ad nauseum. SO PLEASE LET'S END THESE THREADS AS IT REQUIRES A
CULTURAL SHIFT THAT WE WILL PROBABLY NOT SEE IN OUR LIFETIME. Let us
remember what is most important to the majority of us...to get on the air and to
have fun. If there are those among us who wish to pervert the rules, let them
do it. Their victory is hollow.
Respectfully,
Arnie N6HC (Flame suit on)
