[CQ-Contest] zero pointers - was: Rick's Cafe...NQ4I's "Play itagain"

Hi Kelly,
Sorry to disagree with you, but having rules that allow valid QSO's worth zero points is just plain
silly. If it is a valid QSO it should also have some point value. The fact that the QSO may also be
a multiplier is incidental.
Disallowing same-country QSO's is just one way to address the issue. This would be in line with the
purists who want to keep CQWW truly a "DX" contest. It would also stop wasting everyone's time with
zero-value QSO's. Yes, those who do not know better would still call, but they do that in the ARRL
DX, too. (They're "just trying to help" :)) Unfortunately, that aspect is just a fact of life.
Allowing one point for same-country QSO's is another way to solve this. It hasn't turned CQWPX or
IARU into domestic contests and it wouldn't the CQWW. The way it currently sits, when North
America-Europe propagation dies, CQWW basically becomes an European QSO party. (Why should they have
all the fun?) Particularly during this part of the cycle it would certainly give CQWW a boost in
activity in North America.
See you in SS.

Disallowing same-country Qs will only have the effect of telling we who
already know better. Allowing one point per same-country Q creates another
ho-hum domestic contest.
The average zeropointer in Rick's log, I'm sure, is someone who's "Just
trying to help."
I still think the net result of trying to "fix" this problem will be worse
than the problem.
Zero-point Qs happen.
