This is terrible news.

I stayed with Phil in his Los Angeles house in 1983 while visiting the US
during my University summer vacation with some buddies.
He came and operate from Portugal and I had the chance to see him and listen
to him operate.

We had countless contest QSOs and I always enjoyed hearing the distinctive
ZZ on the air.

A great loss to our sport.
