I will echo some of Hank's observations and add a couple.
I recently got a computer desk, where the monitor portion is sunk...down. I *love* it as it keeps my neck from aching because it places the monitor in the same plane as my transceivers.
I am a fan of the IBM Thinkpad laptop, with it's keyboard-integrated "stick mouse" (called a "TrakPoint"). It annoys me to have to remove my fingers from the keyboard to use the mouse. In this case, I don't have to. I am significantly more efficient with this style of mouse (though it admittedly takes some time to get used to). Here's a link to one: http://cgi.ebay.com/IBM-TrackPoint-USB-SpaceSaver-French-Canadian-keyboard_W0QQitemZ5170814467QQihZ005QQcategoryZ33965QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem
As for speakers (I don't use headphones, as I often listen on two radios at the same time and use the spacial difference to isolate each, mentally), I use surface-mount 3-way automobile speakers that are at the same height as my ears. I am about to experiment with sharp roll-off audio cross-over filters to spread-out the treble from the bass so the high-pitched CW will appear to come from a different location than the low-pitched CW. I'll report what I get when I do the implementation.
Wishing you well,
Ev, W2EV
