[CQ-Contest] QSL Ethics question

Hi!
Here's a bit of an ethical question: I received a QSL request from a DX op
who was operating at a club station during CQWW CW. He's asking me to QSL
his personal callsign for awards use. Is it "right" to confirm this QSO?
At first glance, I'm thinking, "No." After all, I have no way of knowing if
it was truly him at the key. Moreover, I was taught that the only valid
contact is one in which both callsigns are exchanged in their entirety.
Is my first-blush reaction the correct one? Or is this sort of thing done
all the time, and I'm just unaware of the convention?
Cheers,

P.S. Glad to work many of you during the test! See you in January NAQP.
