The technology in that article represents a HUGE opportunity to solve many
of the difficulties currently facing both the DX and Contesting communities.
It is well known that the cost of DXpeditions will skyrocket in the future,
given the cost of fuel to transport crew/equipment plus "stand-offshore"
vessels linger-time costs for South Atlantic QTH's. This infrastructure
could easily accomodate a PayPal-like system which would interface directly
to LoTW and the NCDXA, eliminating the need to bother with the actual
relocation of operators to scaffolds in mid Pacific QTH's (for example).
In the contesting community, a central "referee software" sub-system could
validate all signal reports, SweepStakes "checks", and power levels, which
would completely clear the CQ-Contest reflector of traffic, and free up
that internet bandwidth for a new "virtual 27-MHz" channel for retired
trucking industry workers.
