[CQ-Contest] Ad Nauseam...

There is change and then there is flogging the dead horse...

BTW...with SKIMMER technology "anyone" can setup a skimmer receiver on all bands and record (as in recreate) anyone that is heard and build their log from that file...or, in REAL time keep 'tabs' on the competition.

As for NOT making all of your contacts in public...they are made on a VERY PUBLIC resource...ANYONE is allowed to 'listen in'. Do you try to "hide" your contacts on the air?? Seems counterproductive to making as many contacts as you can by being as VISIBLE (Audible) as you can.

As for this never ending argument of 'tactics' and strategies...when have you (or anyone) ever seen TWO contests that had exactly the same propagation...
There are so many variables as to make it laughable...sure the top players 'know' when to go from one band to another...and many of them have 'learned' to move, or the fact that they 'missed' a band opening by...guess what...comparing logs.

It is sad to see people thinking that "potential lawsuits" could come to pass because a HAM RADIO CONTEST log was put in the public eye...public in this case being just those contesters that are truly interested.

Maybe...we should have 'tech inspections' before the contest, like NASCAR, to ensure that the amps and station configurations are within the limits of your country/license capabilities...

They are not fallacious arguments.

When you go to the drug store and order your prescriptions, someone could be standing there listening, when you place your order. The same is true when you make one of those "public contacts", someone MAY be listening, but in both cases, not EVERYONE is listening. Not everyone knows your business.

You state, "we don't put our finances in public display" and I argue that we never put our logs in public display either, but someone changed that. Perhaps one day someone will change our personal finances, especially if we all do what you ask and keep our mouths shut!

The argument that all my contacts are made in public is the fallacious argument.

So, perhaps this argument is 15 years old, but many, including myself, are visiting it for the first time. I exercise my freedom of speech just as you are welcome to exercise your delete button. Instead, you would rather people simply shut up, so that they could not participate in a movement to reverse a decision they feel was made poorly.

The code/no code argument raged on for years also, until finally change was made. I was against that change, but now that it is made, I don't see ham radio falling to the way side!

Change comes from discussion. People that fear change, also fear discussion.

Fallacious arguments. We don't put our finances in public display...period. No comparison to operating in a VERY PUBLIC event.

This is getting TEDIOUS and old...15 years old.

Time to shut this thread DOWN...

Simple answer really...if you don't want your log PUBLIC...don't send it in...then you can frame it and worship it and keep it all to yourself (you and your being used in the general sense)...
