[CQ-Contest] self spotting

You have expressed this directly to the sender, haven't you? [And what is
"the full wrath," anyway? DQ?]

Frankly, under these circumstances, one would think that an email like this
sent to a less than ethical M/S or M/M operator (and I'm speaking generally,
not specifically about you Rick), the temptation would be there to
"accidentally" leave the offending operator off of the official list. After
all, if you're already implicated in one infraction -- and one that you're
guilty of -- what's one more?

Subject: [CQ-Contest] self spotting

Hi All...we received an e-mail from the ARRL Contest director early
yesterday evening regarding a spot he had observed on the packet
cluster....a local ham in the Atlanta area had spotted us on 160m....only
once....within an hour we received the e-mail stating that the operator list
from NQ4I would be checked and that if the spotter was an op at NQ4I we
could expect the full wrath of the ARRL contest branch!

Nothing in this hobby has peeved( the word I have in mind is quite a bit
stronger too) me more....than this e-mail...it's one thing to hold us all
to high standards...but wholly another to try to intimidate and badger any
member of the ARRL and a contest participant....I checked the recent spots
of another of our competitor's and noticed that in the course of 15 minutes
he had been spotted by two K1's and a W2...at this rate the packet police
must really be swamped with responsibility to get e-mails out to as many
violaters of the self spotting rule...maybe thats why I have not received a
response...my team is guilty before any evidence is presented!
