A similar thing happens to me: November Nine Lima Foxtrot often comes back as November Nine Kilo Foxtrot.

My guess is that it is not (solely) your dispronouncification.

I wish I had a dollar for every time my "Kilo Whiskey Three Alpha" came back 
to me from Europe as "Lima Whiskey Three Alpha"?

I always blame it on poor conditions or my weak signal, but perhaps it's 
just my dispronouncification.
