This is a different situation. The signal isn't lost, resulting in random garbage scrolling the screen. The guy can be plenty loud and there's a Mark or a Space there the whole time. He CHOOSES to include numerous CR/LF in his transmission and forces things off the screen. I can see having one at the beginning of your exchange to help the receiving operator distinguish your data from the noise, but a whole slew of these things in the middle of your transmission makes no sense at all.

I always listen to the audio stream as well. To me, RTTY signals that are going to print correctly sound a lot different than RTTY signals that won't print or print incorrectly. Numerous times last weekend the screen would display two or three different versions of the other guys call....but only one of them "sounded" right. More often than not it was the correct call.

I need to see your
>> section before you scroll it off my screen.
>> What's with the LDC's (long delayed responses)? Some guys
>> wait 15 or 20 seconds before answering your CQ. Why?
>
>I think what computer programmers need to do is have a
>"signal lost" indicator on the screen. RTTY is not like
>normal modes (sorry, the Devil made me say that) in that the
>operator often cannot hear the signal drop. The receiving op
>watches the screen and then has to figure out what is
>garbage from noise and what is something being sent.
>
>He also might be typing.
>
>My daddy always used to say "don't pee before your water
>comes boy". I think that applies to repeat transmissions
>and not waiting long enough for replies. That's true on CW,
>but especially true on a mode that you can't easily hear or
>see the transmitting signal drop.
>
>
>
>
>
