Someone asked for an explanation of why Maine real estate is so cheap;
I responded to him privately with a moderately accurate, if brief,
description of winter there.

My XYL grew up there (we're in California now and she has vowed to
never shovel snow again) and still has relatives there. Here's a 
recent email excerpt from one of them:

> Decemeber, so the additional 14 we got yesterday was a little easier to
> swallow!  It is a winter wonderland here this year for sure...

She also said to mention that Maine has only three seasons: winter,
mud, and bug.
