[CQ-Contest] GET SCORES or GET SERIOUS

Show of hands, please: How many on this reflector got into contesting
because of the real-time scoreboard we had at the 2002 WRTC in Finland??
Thank you. (I'll send you a bottle of scotch, if I can find it).

Some, here, seem to resent those who try and be the best of the best in a
contest.

For those who do try and win, every possible (legal) advantage is put to
maximum effort. What's wrong with that? And if a real-time scoreboard,
however constructed or used, gives one scintilla of advantage, would not
that advantage be exploited?

You can hypothesize "what if's, woulda -coulda - shoulda" to the max, and
create whatever answer for which you are searching. Circular arguments with
no meaningful utility.

We can also not count any scores, or have a competition, and just have a
good old 48-hour ragchew.

One thing I learned many years ago, "The top never drags the bottom up. The
bottom always drags the top down". I guess people don't feel so bad about
themselves if everyone's grovelling around at the same pathetic level.

As we wing our way towards mediocrity...........................
