[CQ-Contest] Did I bust the call sign?

I don't think so.  I see a penalty as being for claiming a Q that is 
incorrect, either intentionally or inadvertently.  You are not claiming the 
Q.

How about sending a checklog with just that Q on it, separate from your 
contest entry?

Just my opinion.
