No, it is NOT a "handicap" - it is the required exchange. In order to play
in this contest you have to make a required sequence of noises according to
the contest rules. Period. If you don't make the sequence of noises, you
are not following the rule.
Forget what the noises represent and whether it is the optimally efficient
method of transferring information - that's completely beside the point. If
the exchange was to be optimized, we'd send an RLL-coded string of
characters.
The contest is all about how well a station can send and received the
required sequence of noises. Make the required sequence of noises or don't
play or request a rule change.
It is much more efficient for me to pick up the football (soccer ball for
Zone 3, 4, and 5 readers) and run with it, n'est ce pas?
