Sugar gives a quick spike and not lasting so the downer is faster..ie it sparks you up quickly but crashes equally as quickly..
I also try to eat fruit and muesli bars at the same time looking for longer term peaks (plateaus in performance) rather than the sugar bomb effect of a Red Bull...I have hit over 300Q per hour in SSB contesting after 2 Red Bulls but I would think the voice resembled a cartoon chipmunk...

Now why would anyone buy an un-sugared energy drink? Isn't that like
calling water an unflavored diet energy drink. OK, they do sell that
for dollars a bottle. But why do people buy it?
