Someone said that plaques are heavy, expensive to ship, take a long time, etc.
He is right! And you can't "show them off" unless someone stops by your QTH.
How about cashing in your old wooden plaques for medals and ribbons? Not only are they
less expensive to ship (not sure about cost), but you can wear them to your favorite
ham event and show off in public.
I have always been impressed with the Soviet style of recognition. They really seemed
to "get it right." Of course, lots of others do a similar thing.

Couldn't you just imagine yourself at the contest suites with a chest-full of medals?
And what better photo for a M/M than to show off all of their ops than with
everybody sitting there with a big smile and wearing all those medals of achievement?
I think I have a couple CQ-M medals around here somewhere. There ARE pretty cool.
