One good way to get your answer is to look at which contesting software you will be using.   
You need both a rig capable of being computer controlled and software to do it...  

There's a long list of radios to select in the configuration section of the N1MM logging program for instance.
Or look at the documentation:

The documentation also tells you what limitations there might be to support for each radio.
