Ken,
Really?
<<Ken Said: What serious competitor doesn't use computer logging?
OK, This I have. I don't completely live in a cave
<<Ken also said: What serious competitor doesn't have the computer tracking frequency so as to switch
filters and antennas?
I guess Timo and myself for starters.
My two radios are a TS-930 and TS-430. I had 2500+ QSO's in ARRL DX one year with that TS-430. I'm not sure how I did it because the receiver is a barn door even with the 500Hz filter. The 430 really is a POC. The TS-930 is much better. I have been in the top 20 in CQWW, 3.9 million points or so. I thought that was pretty good at the time.
I didn't realize that didn't classify as serious. I put in 45 hours in CQWW one year too, but alas I'm not a serious contester.
Sorry Ken I couldn't resist a response on this one.
I found your comment rather amusing, but you need to get your head out of the sand. Not everyone has two $5000 radios, $15,000 in amplifiers and $100k in antennas and towers or a house in the Hamptons or is it VY1? What's that about 100000 euro's? And that's for a small station by current standards.
Any contest that requires the frequency in the log is a contest I will not be operating. I don't have the technology! Hey, I have two kids in college!
but.... some day.... some day.... I have a dream.... to buy a decent radio and then instantly become a serious contester.... without even turning it on.... all it takes is that CAT interface and some switched filters or whatever....
some day Timo, you and I can join the "serious contester club"! ooooo, maybe it's a fraternity! now I'm really getting excited! but for now we will have to be content being "the leaders on the trailing edge of technology" (trademark). Thank you to Rochester Electronics for that one.
Sorry Ken, as I said I couldn't resist, now back I go into the stone age.
