The WAPB (Worked All Palm Beach) Contest is this weekend, Oct 22-23. Nice certificates and plaques for winners (plus bragging rights).
Palm Beach County is on Florida's SE Coast about 100 miles N of Miami and is a large county (1974 square miles) with 38 incorporated municipalities and a large unincorporated area. The basic idea of the contest is to work stations in each of those areas. (You can receive an award just for doing that). But as with most contests the more contacts the higher your score. The bands are 160M-1.2GHz and all modes and there are a variety of multipliers and classes. Even though there are about 3000 hams in the county with about half of them active, there are cities with out any. So there will be rovers out for the less populated (with hams) areas. Some time over the weekend all 39 areas will be on the air. Contesters outside Palm Beach County are scored and awarded independent from those operating inside the county, so everyone has equal chances.
