Six of one, half dozen of the other. Split in front, drive reduced by the
split. Split after, output to port reduced by split.
I'm not judging things one way or another, because I have no idea what
anyone does. I'm just curious what people do. Seems like a waste of
amplifiers to me, but who knows what people do.

Well, call me jaded, but I think JI is being very generous in his "not judging"
paragraph.
There is really only ONE MAJOR REASON why one would use 4 amps to 4 antennas
to "split power" instead of doing it at the output of one amp using "whatever" and it's NOT to
invest in the amplifier manufacturers.
So no, IMHO it is NOT "6 of this, half-dozen of the other" by any stretch of the imagination.
Get real. A set up like this just screams RUNNING EXCESSIVE POWER.
My comments are not directed toward any particular station or operator. It applies equally to
everyone who runs multiple amps to multiple antennas on the same band.
