More stats on the rest of the active regions not affected by big gun expeditions:

JAHL (zone 25): -7.% in CW, +7% in SSB : overall 0.05% decrease
VK (zones 29, 30): -30% in CW, +16.1% : HUGE drop in CW activity
ASIA.RUSSIA (zones 17, 18, 19): +2.7% in CW, +20% in SSB
ASIA.BY.JT.VR (zones 23, 24): +0.001% in CW, +14.8% in SSB
BALKANS (zone 20): +12.3% in CW, -4% in SSB
SA* (zones 10, 11, 12, 13): +9.3% in CW, +23.7% in SSB: highest gains in SSB rates - world leader here

* zone 9 is excluded from SA in order to avoid influence on the rates by big guns from 9Y, FY, PJ, P4

Overall, SA leads with SSB increase of 23.7%, EURUSSIA shows biggest gains in CW rates (+15.6). Overall CQWW 2010 worked much better for SSB ops, again this is a reflection of the improved propagation on high bands.

Biggest decreases are in CW activity in VK (-30%) and JAHL (-7%), biggest drop in SSB is in CENTRALEU (-8.5%) and BALKANS (-4%)

73!

Subject: CQWW 2010 analysis: Record hourly rates achieved in CW; NA and RU ops lead in CW and SSB rate increases

Hi,

CQWW 2010 logs have been processed by the Analyser and the results are now available here for analysis and preparation for CWWW 2011: http://www.ei6dx.com/cqww-contest-analysis

Below is the comparison of activity in 2010 vs 2009.

Number of SSB logs was on the rise (6182 vs 5706 in 2009) but CW submissions are down - 5342 vs 5522 in 2009 or 3.25% lower.

Despite lower number of logs submitted 2010 CW broke the 70.000 QSOs per hour threshold for the very first time. This is the higher rate observed ever since public logs became public in 2007. The winning hour was 15:00 on the first day when 70.449 QSOs were made. Closest to this result was CQWW CW 2009 with 65.266 QSOs in the opening hour of the contest which means 7.9% increase in top rate overall. This is a continuing trend for CQWW since 2007. Above also indicates better propagation on higher bands.

Total number of QSOs made in 2010 is 4.939.509 vs 4.594.749 in 2009 (7.5% increase). CW totals increased by 10.6%, SSB – by 4%.

The figures show changes in popularity of the contest between 2009 and 2010:

WEST EU (zone 14): +15.2 in CW, -0.86% in SSB
CENTRAL EU (zone 15): +9.6% in CW, -8.5% in SSB (the biggest decrease!)
EU RUSSIA (zone 16): +15.6% in CW, +2% in SSB.
NAMERICA (zones 1, 2, 3, 4, 5): +11.6 in CW, +17% in SSB

If it was not for NA activity SSB in 2010, the rates would be lower in that mode compared to 2009.

Healthy increases in CW totals for most areas with EU Russia leading there with +15.6%

A big decrease in SSB rates in Central EU of -8.5%.

Better propagation on 20, 15 and 10 meter activity contributed to the higher numbers overall.

I will try to post stats on rates increases with breakdowns by bands in the coming weeks before the contest. Until then you can get the stats by comparing rates manually here by selecting different years and zones.
