Hi Folks,
If an athlete want be in Rio2016 Olympics Games as competitor, he needs to
compete in high level on style (category) he has more advantage. WRTC is
just like that.
WRTC Committee has publish it selection criteria long ago. So, all you need
to do is make the math. Which category can you get more points? If it is
SOAB HP and you don't have (or cannot use) PA and good antennas, sorry,
selection criteria can not fix it for you.
In 2006-2010, I did the math. I realized I could entry as Mult-Op and did
only few Single-Op to be the fist in #SA1. I got 1st place at last contest
results, as I knew (by math) two years before.
For next WRTC, I did the math again! The only way that I could be there as
competitor is doing SOAB HP on almost every big contest. At PW7T, we do M/2
most of time. Almost all operators live 3000-5000Km from PW7T and I just
cannot say to them "hey guys, I'll have fun by myself as Single-Op this
time, please comeback next year". So, long ago I realize I cannot be on
next WRTC as competitor. Is it unfair? Nope, just I cannot dance the music
this time.
My only WRTC2014 complain is about selection criteria and station
setup discrepancy. It gonna be an typical M/2 competition, but score factor
penalize who is doing M/2 on contests, but I now Single-Op should have more
height. I'm sure in future WRTC, selection criteria will be more connected
with station setup. We are just learning how to make this
more attractive and funny for all contesters.
Three WRTC, three perspectives:
WRTC2006 was great. I was referee
WRTC2010 was amazing. I was competitor
WRTC2014 will be fantastic! I'll be there as visitor.
Thanks WRTC committee for all efforts to make it happens for us, again!
73, Luc
