There isnt anything much simpler than ACLOG by N3Fjp for general purpose logging. Not free but cheap and great support.

I have tried twice to make the transition to DXLab. I agree with Doug
that the support is incredible, but each time I returned to DX4WIN,
frustrated with my inability to make DXLab work for me.
DXLab is too complex, too "all things to all people", and takes up too
darned much screen space when providing me the minimum information I
want. For example, to know the azimuth to a station that you want to
call, you have to have an additional component of the suite open, beyond
the log. To receive a spot, know the azimuth, and log a station you
must have 4 components open (including the DXLab Launcher,
SpotCollector, DXKeeper and DXView).
While there a few things I would like changed in DX4WIN, the support
provided by AD1C and others is superb. If and when KK4HD stops updating
DX4WIN, I'll look around again, but I doubt I'll go back to DXL:ab
unless there is a massive change in philosophy.
