Using a second radio as a "spotting radio" is certainly a very fine way to
start out making more efficient use of time while CQing or slow going S & P.
I wouldn't call it SO2R in its typical sense but it is a very
straightforward starting point. When used with appropriate software and
antenna switching to allow frequency swap and automatic antenna selection,
it could be a very good score booster for the right station set up. Most of
us call that SO1.5R.

By the way - I never automate the CQ (keeps me awake) and I take pride in
making sure that an answering station can never tell that I am SO2R. That
doesn't mean I have never asked for a repeat to a CQ because I was
distracted by the second radio..but even SO1R I could ask you for a repeat
based on QRM, QRN, or QSB.
